90s Soap Stars: Then And Now



1. Hollyoaks: Sol Patrick (Paul Danan)




After playing Sol from 1997-2001, Danan featured on Celebrity Love Island in 2005. He returned to the island again in 2006, as well as presenting a show called Date My Girlfriend.





2. Hollyoaks: Rob Hawthorne (Warren Derosa)




Derosa played Hawthorne on Hollyoaks from 1996-2000. He went on to feature in CSI:NY, and as a voice actor in The Art of War III.





3. Hollyoaks: Jambo Bolton (Will Mellor)




Mellor played Jambo from 1995-1998, then graduated to Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Casualty and White Man Van. He currently stars in Channel 4’s Dates.





4. Coronation Street: Raquel Watts (Sarah Lancashire)




Lancashire played barmaid Raquel from 1991-1996 (with a guest appearance in 1999). Since then, she has appeared in Doctor Who, The Paradise, Last Tango in Halifax and has been nominated for two BAFTA’s, and an Olivier Award.





5. Coronation Street: Nick Tilsley (Adam Rickitt)




Rickitt played Nick Tisley in Coronation Street between 1997-1999, launching a pop career in 1999. Since then, he has returned to the soap for a brief spell between 2002-2004 and stood for election as a Conservative MP. He currently works as a charity fundraiser.





6. Coronation Street: Tanya Pooley (Eva Pope)




Pope featured on Coronation Street from 1993-1994. She currently plays Rachel Mason in school drama Waterloo Road, and has featured in Cold Feet, Life on Mars, Spooks and more.





7. Coronation Street: Zoe Tattersall (Joanne Froggatt)




Frogatt began her career in Coronation Street between 1997-1999, and went on to feature in The Royle Family, Life on Mars and Spooks. She currently plays Anna Smith on Downton Abbey – a role which won her an Emmy nomination.





8. Eastenders: Tiffany Mitchell (Martine McCutcheon)

McCutcheon was massively popular as Tiffany between 1994-1998. A singing career followed, as well as roles in Love, Actually and Echo Beach. She announced bankruptcy earlier this year.





9. Eastenders: Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer)

After playing Bianca from 1993-1999, Palmer returned to the ‘Square in 2008.





10. Eastenders: Jamie Mitchell (Jack Ryder)




Ryder featured on Eastenders between 1998-2002, going on to join The Archers in 2008. In 2012, his self-written and directed short film Act of Memory was screened at the Cannes Film Festival.





11. Eastenders: Steve Owen (Martin Kemp)




Kemp played Owen in Eastenders from 1998-2002, winning the Soap Award for ‘Villain of the Year’ in 2000. He participated in Celebrity Big Brother in 2012, coming third in the competition.





12. Eastenders: Mandy Salter (Nicola Stapleton)




Stapleton played Mandy Salter twice – from 1992-1994, and again from 2011-2012. She has also featured in Bad Girls, The Bill and Hollyoaks: Later.





13. Emmerdale: Luke McAllister (Noah Huntley)




Huntley played Luke McAllister from 1993-1995. He then went on to feature in Midsomer Murders, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and Holby City.





14. Emmerdale: Dave Glover (Ian Kelsey)




Kelsey played Dave Glover between 1994-1996. Since then, Kelsey has acted in Men Behaving Badly, Casualty and Holby City. He is currently appearing in Doctors.





15. Emmerdale: Steve Marchant (Paul Opacic)




After playing Steve Marchant between 1997-1999, Opacic featured in Bad Girls, Peak Practice and The Bill, before joining the cast of Hollyoaks in 2010.





16. Brookside: Beth Jordache (Anna Friel)

Friel gave British television its first lesbian kiss, while playing Beth Jordache from 1993-1995. Since then, she has appeared in Pushing Daisies, Timeline and The King of Soho.





17. Neighbours: Felicity Scully (Holly Valance)

Flick was on Neighbours between 1999-2002, until Valance left to pursue a music career. She appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2011, and is currently a judge on Ultimate Shopper.





18. Neighbours: Beth Brennan (Natalie Imbruglia)




Apprentice builder Beth featured on Ramsay Street from 1992-1994, until Imbruglia left to launch a music career. She is to feature in an upcoming adaptation of A Unkindness of Ravens.





19. Home and Away: Shannon Reed (Isla Fisher)

Fisher played bisexual Shannon from 1994-1997. She went on to star in Wedding Crashers and The Great Gatsby.
